Doesn’t Dora look fancy? She’s wearing my most recently completed sewing project. It’s a fancy, retro-inspired apron. Alas, this apron won’t be staying with me. But I made it for a very good cause. You see, my sister works for a great little non-profit called Cooperative for Education that does literacy work in Guatemala. Every fall they have a big fundraising event called Fall Fiesta. Part of the event is a silent auction. My sister asked me to make an item to put in the auction and I was more than happy to donate my talents to such a worthy cause. Knowing my sister’s love for cute aprons, she’ll have a hard time parting with this little beauty.
Design/Pattern: I modified and embellished the “Reversible Apron” pattern from Simple Sewing by Lotta Jansdotter.
Materials:
- printed woven cotton
- black woven cotton
- white bias binding
- black thread
- white thread
- French seams (front panel to side panels)
- hemming (raw edges)
- top stitching (around pocket, bias binding, sash & waist ties)
- It’s not reversible, so I had to make sure the edges were finished neatly.
- I added a wide band across the waist and widened the ties.
- I added a cute little pocket to the front too.
